The right purifier for genuinely hard water, provided you accept the running cost. On municipal supply under 300 TDS you are paying for capability you will never use.

How I tested

I bought this Aquaguard unit myself and ran it in my own home for 6 months. Everything below comes from that use — measurements, service calls and running costs included. Nothing here is taken from a spec sheet or a press release.

Why I bought this one

My building runs on borewell water that tests at 1,100 TDS in summer and around 900 TDS after the monsoon. That rules out UV-only and UF purifiers entirely — they do nothing about dissolved salts. Once you are shopping RO at that hardness, the question stops being “which purifier” and becomes “which purifier survives hard water without a service call every quarter”.

How I tested

Six months of ordinary household use, roughly 12 litres a day for two adults. I logged input and output TDS weekly with a handheld meter, tracked the reject water into a bucket for a full week to measure the recovery rate, and kept every service receipt.

The numbers

Output TDS settled between 74 and 82 across the whole period, which is where you want drinking water — low enough to be safe, high enough to taste like something. The recovery rate is the sore point: 2.4 litres rejected per litre purified. In a city that already trucks in water during summer, that is a real cost, and no manufacturer advertises it honestly.

Who should skip it

If your supply is Metro or Corporation water testing under 300 TDS, buy a UV or UF unit and spend the difference on nothing at all. RO on soft water strips minerals you were fine drinking, wastes water, and costs more to maintain.

  • Wastes roughly 2.4 litres for every litre purified
  • Annual filter kit costs more than most competitors at this price
  • Wall mounting needs a drill and a helper — not a solo job
  • No UV indicator, so you cannot tell if the lamp has failed
